New Delhi : All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) on Friday held a protest outside Shastri Bhawan in New Delhi, housing the Petroleum and Natural Gas Ministry, over the rise in LPG cylinder price.
Shouting slogans against the central government, the association demanded the “immediate roll back of the hike”.
On September 1, the government increased the price of non-subsidised liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders by Rs 25, a second hike within 15 days.
On August 18, the gas companies had hiked the LPG cylinder price by Rs 25.
BJP ally JD(U) had earlier demanded the roll back of the LGP price hike.
JD(U) spokesperson K C Tyagi said the repeated increase in LPG price adversely affected the budget of the common people.
“The government should roll back the hike,” he said.
At present, the government provides 12 subsidised LPG cylinders of 14.2 kilograms to a household every year.
After the hike, the price of an LPG cylinder in Delhi is Rs 844.50, Kolkata Rs 911, Mumbai Rs 844.50 and Chennai Rs 900.50.
