ucknow: Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday was appointed as the Leader of the Opposition in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly. An order to this effect has been issued by Principal Secretary Vidhan Sabha Pradeep Kumar Dubey. “Akhilesh Yadav, member of the UP Legislative Assembly and Leader of Samajwadi Legislature Party is appointed as the Leader of the Opposition,” read the order. Earlier in the day, SP president was elected as the leader of the Legislature Party unanimously during the meeting of the newly elected MLAs and the sitting MLCs at the party office here. State president Naresh Uttam Patel announced the decision after the meeting. He said that the proposal to elect SP chief as the leader of the MLA group was proposed by senior MLA Awadhesh Prasad and was seconded by Alam Badi and was supported by all the MLAs. “The proposal to elect Akhilesh as the leader of the legislature party was moved by Lalji Verma and was seconded by sitting MLC Rajendra Chaudhary,” Patel said. He said that during the meeting gratitude was expressed towards the people of Uttar Pradesh, who supported SP. “The leadership of the SP chief in which the elections were contested was also hailed,” he said. He said that on March 28 another meeting will be held with all the allies of SP, including Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD), Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP) and all others, who contested on the symbol of the party, including Shivpal Singh Yadav.
