Mumbai: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday felicitated the Tokyo Olympic medallist ahead of the start of the the Indian Premier League 2022 opener. Javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra, boxer Lovlina Borgohain and men’s hockey team were honoured by the cricket board. Chopra, who became the first Indian to win an Olympic gold in athletics, was awarded a cash prize of Rs 1 crore. Lovlina, who cliched a bronze in women’s welterweight category was given a cash reward of Rs 25 lakh. The BCCI also awarded a collective prize of Rs 1.25 crore to men’s hockey team, who ended 41 years medal drought after winning a bronze in Tokyo games held last year. Skipper Manpreet Singh collected a prize on behalf of Indian team. The BCCI posted a video from the felicitation ceremony on Twitter with a caption: “A touch of class to celebrate India’s Tokyo 2020 medal winners.”
