Bengaluru : International Tennis star Rohan Bopanna and multi-lingual film actor Prakash Belawadi are among 64 other achievers, who will be conferred Kannada Rajyotsava award on the occasion of Karnataka Rajyotsava here on Monday.
The awards will be conferred today evening. One of the awardees is Kargil war hero Captain Naveen Nagappa, who has said he owes his life to Captain Vikram Batra, who laid down his life for the nation in the same battle.
Belawadi is the third member in his family to have been bestowed the award. His parents and legendary stage artists BN Nani and Bhargavi Narayan received the award earlier.
Other noted achievers who have been chosen for the coveted award are veteran actor Devaraj, Kannada standup comedian Gangavathi Pranesh.
State’s Technical Advisory Committee Chairman Dr MK Sudarshan also has been bestowed the award. The committee has been in the forefront of giving suggestions to the state government for tackling Covid pandemic.
As many as 10 organisations involved in social service will also be felicitated with the state award under “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav”, a central government initiative to mark 75 years of independence.
Among the 10 organisations, Adamya Chethana also has been chosen for the special award category. The NGO is run by BJP leader Ananthkumar’s wife Tejaswini Ananthkumar.
