New Delhi : Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday launched an attack on the BJP and RSS, saying he can never ‘compromise’ with their ideology.
Speaking at a function to celebrate the foundation day of Mahila Congress, he blamed the “ideology” of RSS for the murder of Mahatma Gandhi, and questioned the idea of Hinduism propagated by them.
“We have a different ideology from BJP, either of the two ideologies can rule this country. Being a Congress worker I know I can compromise with all other ideologies but not with the ideology of BJP and RSS,” Mr Gandhi said.
“What is the difference in the ideology of Congress, of Gandhi, and the ideology of RSS, Godse and Savarkar. This is an important question for all of us,” he said.
“People of BJP say they are a Hindu party, if there is one person in the last 100-200 years who has understood Hinduism, it is Mahatma Gandhi. We agree with it and so do the RSS and BJP. If Mahatma Gandhi understood Hindu religion and spent all his life for it, why did the RSS ideology shoot three bullets in his chest?” Mr Gandhi said, slamming the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and its ideological mentor Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.
“Mahatma Gandhi talked about non-violence. It is the foundation of Hinduism. Then where do the ideologies of Savarkar and RSS come from? Why did Godse shoot three bullets in his body? It’s a big question and a contradiction,” he said.
He also talked about Hindu goddesses Lakshmi and Durga, and said that with steps like demonetisation and new farm laws, the government has reduced the powers of the goddesses.
“They call themselves Hindu, and attack Durga and Lakshmi all over the country. They are fake Hindus,” he said, accusing the BJP of using religion.
He also talked about the symbol of hand, the electoral symbol of Congress, and said it meant being ‘fearless’.
“The fear that the BJP had in their heart, they have spread it across the country,” he said.
“You go to farmers, they are scared, go to a woman, she is not safe on roads, they are scared,” he said.
He also mentioned India-China border tension and alleged that Indian land was taken by China.
“But the Prime Minister says no one has taken our land,” he added.
