Kolkata : The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI),
probing the multi-crore rupees of coal smuggling scam, on Thursday
conducted raids in some locations of two districts of West Bengal,
including a high official of the ECL in Asansol and CISF
camps/office in Murshidabad’s thermal power project at Farakka.
Sources having knowledge on the latest raids by the CBI, which is
investigating coal smuggling, said the central probe agency officials
have raided the office and residence of a top official of the Eastern
Coalfields Ltd, a subsidiary of Coal India Ltd, at its Asansol office
and residence in West Bardhaman.
They said the raids were on at the office and residence of the ECL
The CBI also raided the office of the CISF official and his residence
at Farakka’s thermal power project.
This was the first time that the CBI was raiding locations of CISF
official camp offices and quarters.
A separate report from Haldia in East Medinipur said the CBI is
expected to interrogate TMC leader from Nandigram Sheikh Sufian
in the death of BJP leader Debobrata Maity later on Thursday.
The CBI, probing the post-poll violence following a Calcutta high
order last month had visited several times at Nandigram
In the first week of this month and there the agency officials told
the TMC leader to appear at its camp office in Haldia.
