Chennai : The Union Government has given its approval for
setting up a Medical Devices Park at a cost of Rs 450 crore.
In a statement here, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin said, the Park,
to come up in a 350 acre area at Oragadam in neighbouring Kanchipuram
district, will attract an investment of Rs 3,500 crore and would offer direct
and indirect jobs to 10,000 people.
He said Industrial Parks and Sector Specific Industrial Parks are being
established in various districts of Tamil Nadu through SIPCOT.
Based on this, the State Government in the Budget 2021-22 announced that
a Medical Devices Park will be established at Oragadam through SIPCOT.
In order to create infrastructure facilities in this Medical Devices Park, the state
government had sent a proposal to the Department of Pharmaceuticals and
Mr Stalin requested the Centre for necessary support.
“Now, the Union Government has accorded in-principle approval for setting
up of four Medical Devices Park throughout the country. These Parks will be
established in the States of Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh
and Tamil Nadu at Oragadam in Kancheepuram District”, Mr Stalin said.
Under this scheme, the Centre will provide a maximum grant of Rs.100 crores
for creating infrastructure facilities in the proposed Medical Devices Park in
Oragadam.
This Park will be established with all basic infrastructure facilities and special
infrastructure such as testing labs, product development and prototyping centre,
calibration facility and skill development centre.
This Park will house companies manufacturing medical devices such as
ventilators, PP monitors, pacemakers, surgical equipment, ophthalmic and
dental implants and other medical devices.
SIPCOT will develop this park for manufacture of Medical Devices with
all infrastructure facilities of international standards.
“I am confident that Tamil Nadu which is already a renowned centre for
medical tourism will become a global manufacturing hub for the production
of medical devices through this Park”, the Chief Minister said.
