Lucknow: Soon after Dalit leader Charanjit Singh Channi swore in as the new chief minister of Punjab, Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati cautioned the Dalits about the “double standards” of Congress and said that it still does not trust Dalits and is using them for its own benefits before polls.
Alleging that Congress is troubled with the alliance between BSP and Akali Dal in Punjab, Mayawati said that back in the days, it accepted Ambedkar only because it could not find anyone better to develop the Constitution of India.
The BSP chief said that similar is the case of BJP in Uttar Pradesh and alleged that if BJP’s new-found love for OBC is true, then the government would have accepted the demand for a caste-based census.
“I congratulate and give Channi good wishes but it would have been better if Congress had earlier made him the chief minister to serve for five years. But now making him chief minister just before the elections, shows that it is just their hollow election stunt,” Mayawati said.
