Chandigarh : Sleuths of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday arrested senior Congress leader and former MLA from Bholath Sukhpal Singh Khaira in a money laundering case said to be registered in 2015.
Khaira was summoned on Wednesday at the ED office at Chandigarh. He was called again for recording of his statement today in the office. He was taken into custody by the ED sleuths after his replies to the questionnaire were found unsatisfied.
He is likely to be taken to Delhi for further investigations in the case, ED sources said.
Khaira had joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in December 2015 after quitting Congress. He was unceremoniously removed as the Leader of Opposition of Punjab Assembly in 2018 by the leadership of AAP, following which he turned rebel and resigned from primary membership of the party in 2019 and floated his own party in the name and style of Punjab Ekta Party and unsuccessfully contested Lok Sabha polls from Bathinda and returned to the Congress fold, six years after deserting it.
Before rejoining the grand old party, Khaira submitted his resignation from the Punjab Assembly, which was accepted on October 19, 2021 by Assembly Speaker Rana KP Singh.
