A study conducted by Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya has found depleting levels of essential nutrients in rice cultivated today as opposed to 50 years ago. The study has noted depleting trends in grain density of zinc and iron in rice and wheat cultivated in India. The findings were published last month in Environmental and Experimental Botany.
