New Delhi M¤ Delhiits on Monday witnessed heavy traffic jams in several parts of Delhi roads as Delhi BJP staged ‘chakka jam’ protests at 15 locations across the National Capital against Delhi government’s new excise policy.
BJP Delhi unit workers blocked roads at various places following which several main roads and their connecting arterial roads were jammed, vehicles were seen moving on these stretches at snails pace.
Traffic jams were reported at important stretches, including ITO, Akshardham Temple, Ring Road and Vikas Marg and Karol Bagh area.
Naveen Jindal, spokesperson, BJP said, “We know that commuters are facing traffic jam problems at some places due to ‘chakka jam’ protests but our protest is in favour of the people and society. The police have already detained several leaders and cleared the roads.”
Commuters said that due to the traffic jam it more than 2-3 hours to cover a four-five kilometers stretch.
“I have been stuck in a massive traffic jam for the last three years. The traffic is moving at a snails pace. I left my home around 9 am for Rohini, but got stuck in this traffic near Kashmiri Gate Road. The vehicles are crawling on this stretch,” said Sourabh Kumar, a commuter and resident of Shahdara.
