New Delhi : Sunrisers Hyderabad opener Jonny Bairstow, Punjab Kings batsman Dawid Malan and Delhi Capitals all-rounder Chris Woakes on Saturday pulled out of the remainder of IPL 2021, due to personal reasons.
South Africa’s top-order batsman Aiden Markram will replace Malan in Punjab Kings.
‘Dawid Malan will not be travelling to UAE for the remainder of #IPL2021. He will be taking some time off to be with his family ahead of the #T20WorldCup and Ashes, ‘ tweeted Punjab Kings.
‘Welcoming our newest Lion face Aiden Markram who will replace Dawid Malan for the remainder of the season,’ it said in another tweet.
Makram played a match-winning knock (48* off 33 balls) against Sri Lanka in Colombo on Friday. This will be his first stint in the IPL, after having gone unsold in the previous auctions.
Other England cricketers – Jos Buttler, Jofra Archer and Ben Stokes (all Rajasthan Royals cricketers)
had pulled out previously.
Bairstow, Woakes, Malan and Buttler have all been named in England’s T20 World Cup squad and might expect to be named in England’s Ashes tour party, too. The prospect of staying more than four months away from home and bubble fatigue led to the withdrawl of England cricketers.
However, Moeen Ali, Sam Billings, Sam Curran, Tom Curran, George Garton, Eoin Morgan, Chris Jordan, Adil Rashid, Liam Livingstone and Jason Roy are the England players, who still expected to participate in the IPL. Some are expected to fly to the UAE on Saturday on a commercial flight.
Meanwhile, after the indefinite postponement of fifth Test between India and England, Mumbai Indians have flown in three of its Indian contingent members, captain Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, and Suryakumar Yadav, from England to Abu Dhabi on a private charter flight.
The trio, along with their families, arrived on Saturday morning and will now undergo 6 days of quarantine.
Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings also said that their players – R Ashwin, Ishant Sharma, Prithvi Shaw, Ajinkya Rahane, Rishabh Pant and Axar Patel (DC), KL Rahul, Mohammed Shami, and Mayank Agarwal (Punjab Kings) have left Manchester by Emirates Flight.
Chennai Super Kings stated that Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Cheteshwar Pujara will take a commercial flight to Dubai from London on Saturday night.
