Hyderabad : Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived here on Saturday evening to take part in a two-day Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National Executive meeting and to address a public meeting on Sunday.
Modi, who arrived by a special plane, was received by Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan. Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao skipped the event.
On behalf of the state, Telangana Minister T. Srinivas Yadav welcomed the Prime Minister.
This is the third time in six months that KCR, as the Chief Minister is popularly known, was absent during a reception of Modi at the airport.
Earlier in the day, KCR received opposition presidential candidate Yashwant Sinha at the same airport.
From the airport, Modi took a chopper to the Hyderabad International Convention Centre at Novotel Hotel in Hitech City where he will participate in the National Executive meeting, which will continue till July 3 evening.
He will address a public meeting at the parade grounds on Sunday evening and stay overnight in Hyderabad. He will leave on July 4 morning to Bheemavaram in Andhra Pradesh.
The BJP is determined to oust the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) in assembly elections next year.
BJP President J P Nadda, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP Chief Ministers are among those taking part in the meeting.
