New Delhi : The Congress party on Wednesday attacked the the government over the consignment of drugs caught at Mundra port, and an alleged bribery scandal involving American e-commerce giant Amazon, accusing the Narendra Modi government of “selling the future of the country”.
Congress Spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala attacked the Bharatiya Janata Party government, and said the drugs found at the Mundra port was the biggest drug haul perhaps in the world.
“It is not India but the world’s biggest drugs haul appears to have happened right her in our country… 25,000 kgs of heroine worth Rs 1,75,000 crore has been thrown to the Indian market to tarnish the future of India’s youth,” Surjewala said.
“We all saw as the Heroine was caught from Adani Mundra port in Gujarat, but the same company, citing the same product, had imported drugs in June 2021. It is the biggest ever drug haul in the history of world,” Surjewala said.
He questioned how a drug racket had been running under the government’s watch.
“Why is a drug cartel prospering under the nose of Narendra Modi and Amit Shah. Where have this 25,000 kgs of heroine gone? Which politician in the country is giving protection to the drug mafia? Is it not pushing youth towards drugs, and a breach of national security,” he said seeking an investigation in the Mundra Port.
The drug consignment seized, said to be the biggest haul by Directorate of Revenue Intelligence so far,
According to reports, the consignment was imported by a trading company registered in Vijaywada in Andhra Pradesh. It was declared as semi-processed talc stones originating from Afghanistan and shipped from Bandar Abbas Port in Iran to Mundra Port in Gujarat.
Surjewala raise the issue of an alleged bribery scandal in the e-commerce giant Amazon.
According to reports, Amazon is said to be investigating alleged bribes paid by its legal representatives in India, spent a staggering Rs. 8,546 crore or USD 1.2 billion in legal expenses for maintaining a presence in the country during 2018-20.
“It has come out that Amazon spent Rs 8,000 crore on legal fee… India’s law ministry’s annual budget is Rs. 1100 crores. How can a company’s budget in legal fee be around 9,000 crore,” Surjewala questioned.
“The question is simple, so called alleged bribe was being given to who in Modi government? Was this money given to annihilate trde and business worth crores of small shopkeeppers so e-commerce companies like amazon could take away their business?” he questioned
“Modi Government is selling the future of India,” he alleged.
