Hamirpur (HP) :The National Institute of Technology Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh has received one patent for performing the secure transaction in ATMs (Automated teller machine), officials informed on Tuesday.
A team from the institute led by Dr Ram Niwash Mahia, Assistant Professor, Department of Electrical Engineering, National Institute of Technology Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh has invented the technology along with team members Pawan Singh, Prateek Singhal, Baseem Khan, S Rajkumar, L Devi, S Kanchana, and Om Prakash Mahela from other institutes.
The patent was granted for “A System and A Method for Performing Secure Transaction in ATM” by the Commissioner of Patents, IP Australia (Australian Government), according to the Registrar of the NIT, Dr. Yogesh Gupta.
Dr Gupta said here onTuesday that this patent related to a system for performing secure transactions in ATMs. The main objective of this patent is to provide better security in the ATM machines by using colour code keys to enter the ATM Pin for verification with the help of a Smartphone.
The Director, NIT Hamirpur; Head, faculties, and staff of the Electrical Engineering Department have congratulated Dr. Mahia for achieving this great success.
Dr Mahia from the Department of Electrical Engineering at NIT Hamirpur said nowadays, in the banking sector security, plays an important role whether it is online banking or ATM machine transaction. The ATM machines are a convenience for regular use but have also attracted some criminal minds as well. Therefore, “the main objective of the present disclosure is to provide better securities in the ATM machines by using color code keys to enter the ATM Pin for verification with the help of a Smartphone”.
In the present disclosure, after fetching the card details by the ATM machine the user has to select either normal mode or secure mode. Normal mode is the traditional working of an ATM machine but in secure mode, the user will get the notification of color and number mapping on the registered mobile number. Then the user will select the color against the numeric value of the Pin number from the notification and enter the pin by pressing the colors on the ATM machine’s LED display touchpad.
The main aim of this proposed technique and system is to make a transaction more secure over an ATM machine to prevent illegal transactions, fraud, etc, said Dr Mahia.
