New Delhi : Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi on Thursday hit out at the Uttar Pradesh government and said women are not safe in the state, be it the Secretariat, road, or any other place.
Priyanka made these remarks after a video went viral on social media, in which a government officer at Bapu Bhavan in Lucknow was seen molesting a contractual employee.
Taking to micro-blogging site Twitter, Priyanka said, “Be it secretariat, road or any other place: Women are unsafe in UP. This is the reality of the government’s claim of ‘women’s safety’. My sisters of UP, unite and fight your battle like this yourself. You are a girl, you can fight. Every woman of the country is standing with you.”
Uttar Pradesh police had on Wednesday night arrested Ichharam Yadav, Section In-charge in the Minority Welfare Department of the Uttar Pradesh government, for molesting and threatening a female employee.
The woman had complained in the FIR that she was working as a contractual worker in the same department as Ichharam and the accused had been behaving indecently with her since 2018. He also threatened to fire or defame her, in case she did not listen to him.
