Bhubaneswar : Odisha government on Sunday alerted collectors of all the districts under red, orange and yellow warning to remain prepared to meet any eventuality in view of depression over Bay of Bengal.
The collectors were asked to closely monitor the situation and meet any water logging, localised flood like situation including urban areas and possibility of landslides in hilly areas.
The district magistrates were also asked to alert the BDOs, Tahsildars, Executive Engineers of Roads and Works department to keep a continuous vigil of low lying areas and undertake dewatering wherever required including urban areas may be taken up.
The government directed the district magistrate to ensure the functioning of the control room round the clock and send the rainfall report immediately to the Special Relief Commissioner office.
Meanwhile, incessant rains lashed several parts of Odisha since this morning triggered by a depression over North west Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of north Odisha-west Bengal affecting normal life.
The local meteorology department said a well marked low pressure over Northwest and adjoining west central Bay of Bengal has intensified into a depression over North west Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of north Odisha-west Bengal coasts.
It is likely to move west-northwest wards across north Odisha and north Chhattisgarh during subsequent 2-3 days.
Under its impact heavy to very heavy rainfall with extremely heavy rainfall is likely to occur over various districts of Odisha in next three days.
The depression will trigger heavy rainfall over the districts of Puri, Khordha, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Dhenkanal and Nayagarha tomorrow.
The weather office warned that the rain might cause temporary water logging , traffic congestion in urban areas and damage to kutcha roads.
