The Prime Minister, as well as several Chief Ministers sent birthday wishes to the Dalai Lama on his 86th birthday on 06 July. The exchange of greetings between the PM and the Tibetan spiritual leader may have diplomatic significance given that Beijing calls the Dalai Lama a “splittist”. However, the fact that China has not paid heed to Indian “sensitivities” on the India-China border, or the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor or the status of Jammu and Kashmir, has led New Delhi to recalibrate its earlier position.
