In a recent judgment, the Supreme Court has ruled that reservations for Persons with Disabilities (PwD) mandated by the PwD (Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation) Act, 1995 is applicable to promotions as well. A PwD can avail the benefits of reservation even if they were not appointed under the PwD quota. According to the SC, the Act makes no distinction between those who may have entered the service on account of disability and those who may have suffered so thereafter.
