New Delhi : Former India cricket team head coach Ravi Shastri on Friday described Ranji Trophy as the backbone of Indian cricket. Taking to Twitter, Shastri said: “The Ranji Trophy is the backbone of Indian cricket. The moment you start ignoring it, our cricket will be SPINELESS!” Earlier this month, the Board of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the postponement of the Ranji Trophy along with other domestic events in the wake of rising Covid-19 cases. In a statement, the Indian board said: “BCCI does not want to compromise the safety of the players, support staff, match officials and other participants involved and hence has decided to put the three tournaments on hold till further notice. “The BCCI will continue to assess the situation and take a call on the start of the tournaments accordingly,” it said. Last year too the domestic tournament was cancelled due to the pandemic.
