Haridwar/Dehradun : Uttarakhand Women Empowerment and Child Development Minister Rekha Arya on Tuesday took out a Kanwar Yatra, to spread the message of ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ and end gender inequality.
Commencing from Har ki Paidi in Haridwar, the yatra, which covered around 25 km, concluded in Rishikesh.
Among the crowd of lakhs of Kanwariyas, she reached Har ki Paidi in the morning, took a pledge and filled water.
National General Secretary of All India Akhara Parishad, Hari Giri Maharaj and the President of the Ganga Sabha, who were present there, commenced the Kanwar Yatra on foot, amid Vedic chants and havan.
After this, she walked on foot, stopping at various stops, and reached the historic Virbhadra Mahadev temple in Rishikesh, about 25 km away for Jalabhishek.
A large number of women, including Anganwadi workers, departmental officers and supervisors were involved in this Kanwar Yatra, along with the Cabinet Minister.
