Several Sikh leaders from different states including leaders from Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) arrived at Jammu and Kashmir to protest “forced conversions and marriages” of girls from their community. This was sparked by an incident of an 18-year-old Sikh girl marrying a Muslim man in Srinagar earlier in the month. While the Sikh community called it a ‘forced marriage’, the girl told the court magistrate she did it of her own free will. She was later returned to her parents.
