Anantapur : As many as six women were killed and two others critically injured when the autorickshaw in which they were travelling collided with a lorry at Pamidi village near Tahasildar office on National Highway-44 on Friday.
As many as 13 agriculture labourers in the autorickshaw were going to a cotton field to harvest the crop.
A speeding lorry collided with the autorickshaw killing Shankaramma (36), Nagaveni (32), Chittemma (35), Subbamma (45) and Savitra (40) Chowdamma (33).
Five of the women were killed instantaneously while another woman died while being taken to hospital.
All the deceased belonged to Koppalakonda village in Garladinne mandal
The condition of two of the injured women is said to be very critical.
Tadipatri Deputy Superintendent of Police Chaitanya told media that the ill-fated autorickshaw was going in a wrong route when the accident occurred.
A case was registered. The bodies were shifted to the government hospital for postmortem, the DSP added.
Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh Governor Biswa Bhusan Harichandan expressed grief and shock over the death of six women in a road accident.
He directed the doctors to provide the best treatment to the injured.
Former Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu also expressed grief over the death of six women.
He appealed to the government to extend help to the bereaved families.
