Kolkata :Popular Bengali film actress Srabanti Chatterjee, who joined the BJP before the last West Bengal Assembly election in April-May, left the party on Thursday.
Taking to Twitter, Chatterjee said, ‘ Severing all ties with the BJP, the party for which I fought the last state elections. “
” Reason being their lack of initiative and sincerity to further the cause of Bengal…” Chatterjee stated.
She fought the last Assembly election in April-May and lost to State Minister and veteran Trinamool Congress leader Partha Chatterjee from Behala West constituency.
She joined the BJP in the presence of party national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya and the then state president Dilip Ghosh on march 1.
Reacting to Srabanti’s quitting the party, BJP State President Sukanta Majumder iterated that her desertion won’t leave any impact on the party.
” She hasn’t ascertained any reason for her quitting the party. It could have been better if she stayed with the BJP. She was our Assembly candidate. But the BJP isn’t dependant on any face and doesn’t do individual-based politics. The party runs based on organisation, ” Majumder opined.
Trinamool Congress leader Kunal Ghosh said, ” Nobody will be able to stay with the BJP. After the Assembly election, one after another is leaving the party. “
