New Delhi : Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi on Sunday said that the hike in sugarcane prices announced by the Uttar Pradesh government was not sufficient, after the state government announced a hike of Rs 25 per quintal.
The hike was announced by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday.
“BJP has cheated the sugarcane farmers of UP a lot. After a marginal increase of Rs 35 in 4.5 years, now it has been announced to give only Rs 350 / quintal to sugarcane farmers, while the cost of farmers has increased a lot,” Priyanka Gandhi said in a tweet.
“The sugarcane farmers of UP need not even one rupee less than Rs 400/quintal,” she said.
Addressing a meeting of farmers organised by the BJP’s Kisan Morcha, Adityanath announced a hike of Rs 25 per quintal in the purchase prices of sugarcane in the state.
The price would go up from Rs 325 per quintal, to Rs 350 per quintal.
Sugarcane prices have been an important issue in the poll bound Uttar Pradesh, which is also witnessing farmers’ protests, especially in the western part of the state which is known as the sugar bowl of India.
