Hamirpur/Shimla : Youth welfare and sports Minister, Rakesh Pathania has said that the state government had decided to construct all-weather ice skating rinks in three cities of Himachal, Shimla, Manali and Dharamsala. Projects worth about two crores have also been approved by the central government, he said last evening.
He said that there was no dearth of sports talent in Himachal and the state government was making continuous efforts to improve them and not bring them forward.
While participating in a virtual meeting with Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur from Malakwal (Nurpur) on Monday, he said that construction work of all weather ice skating rinks at Dharamsala, Manali and Shimla was taken on war footing to increase the participation of sportspersons of the state in Winter Olympics.
Pathania said that 22 projects have been sent by the State Government to the Central Government for approval under the Khelo India program. He said that out of these four of these have been approved. The cooperation of the Central Government will be taken for the establishment of a High Altitude Training Center in Kangra district. In order to boost the morale of the players, the state government for the first time has increased the incentive amount for Olympic and Para Olympic medal winners from Rs 50 lakh to Rs 1 crore.
On this occasion, Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur said that this meeting was organized to promote sports persons and sports activities participating in the upcoming Olympic Games. Priority will be given to work on One State, One Sports scheme to participate in the upcoming Olympics.
