Srinagar : Troops guarding the Line of Control (LoC) foiled yet another infiltration bid when they killed a Pakistan militant and captured another in Uri sector in the north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Tuesday.
Four soldiers were also injured in the encounter, official sources said.
They said that troops noticed a group of militants sneaking into this side from Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) in Uri sector in north Kashmir district of Baramulla. However, when challenged on this side of the LoC, militants resorted to indiscriminate firing with automatic weapons, they said adding fire was retaliated ensuing in an encounter.
One militant, a Pak resident, was killed and another was captured, they said adding four soldiers were injured.
This is for the first time a Pak militant was arrested alive by security forces during this year. Security forces are conducting massive searches in the entire area, they said.
A senior Army officer will address a press conference at Uri this afternoon and share details about the infiltration.
This was the third infiltration bid from POK since the night of September 18-19 when two soldiers were injured and militants fled from the area.
Later, three infiltrators were killed by the security forces in another area in Uri sector.
General Officer Commanding (GOC) 15 Corps Lt Gen D P Pandey has said last week that that security forces have anticipating change in the attitude of Pakistan during two months — September and October.
However, he has assured that situation along the in Kashmir valley is peaceful and said that people don’t have to worry about anything as troops are prepared to deal with any eventuality.
“The situation on LoC is fine. Small incidents will happen. But, I can assure you that we are well prepared for any eventuality at LoC. People of Kashmir don’t have to worry about what is happening at LoC,”Lt Gen Pandey told reporters on the sideline of a function held at Army Goodwill School Boniyar in this north Kashmir district on Monday.
The reassurance by the top Army commander comes a day after Pakistani troops violated ceasefire by resorting to indiscriminate shelling and firing near the LoC in Teetwal sector in north Kashmir district of Kupwara. The shelling, which last for about 10 to 15 minutes, was the first ceasefire violation by Pakistan troops since February this year in the valley.
The Indian and Pakistani armies on February 25, 2020 had announced that they would cease firing across the LoC while recommitting themselves to a 2003 ceasefire agreement.
