Lucknow : Condoling the death of Akhara Parishad President Mahant Narendra Giri under suspicious circumstances, the Uttar Pradesh Congress on Tuesday demanded an investigation of the matter by the CBI under the supervision of the Supreme Court or the Division Bench of the High Court.
In the press conference held at the state headquarters on Tuesday, Congress Working Committee member and former Rajya Sabha member Pramod Tiwari and State Congress President Ajay Kumar Lallu jointly expressed their anger over the incident and said that till now 21 saints have been killed or have died under suspicious circumstances in the rule of a Chief Minister who calls himself Yogi.
Under Yogi Adityanath’s rule, Uttar Pradesh has become a state of murder and heinous crimes and NCRB data had confirmed this, they said.
Senior Congress leader Pramod Tiwari said that the death of Mahant Narendra Giri under suspicious circumstances is sad not only for the Sant Samaj but also for the country.
He raised the question that why, how and under whose pressure the police termed it a suicide before the post-mortem report was submitted. He said that the concern of the Congress is that no other sadhu or sanyasis should be killed like this. Even Dharmacharyas are not safe in Yogi Raj.
Mr Tiwari said that a video going viral should also be made a part of the investigation. “Deputy Chief Minister, who met Mahant ji a day before the incident, should also be investigated. What was the compulsion for committing suicide?,” he said
Congress leaders said that it should be found out who were sitting on the property of thousands of crores of the Math.
“The names of one officer and two leaders are also coming up in the incident,” he said, adding that before the suspicious death of Mahant ji, 20 saints or priests of temples have also been killed in the Yogi regime, so a CBI probe is required under the supervision of Divisional Bench of Supreme or High Court.
On this occasion, Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee President Ajay Kumar Lallu said that Yogi Raj has turned into ‘Dushasan Raj’, where even people having Y category security are not safe.
He raised the question regarding the opening of the door of Mahant ji’s room and asked on whose behest his dead body was brought down without calling the police?
The state Congress President said that it is a common discussion that Mahant ji could not sign, then who wrote the 7-page suicide note? Who conspired at the highest level to usurp the property of the monastery? If the suicide note itself is to be taken as authentic, then three persons are named in it, but only one person was named in the FIR on whose behalf.
He further said that just as the Yogi government tried many tricks to discredit the Hathras incident as false, in the same way, the Yogi government is bent on terming this incident a suicide.
It seems that there is an attempt to hide something in this because the room from where the dead body of Mahant ji was taken out was neither his bedroom nor his sitting room. How did the people present in the Math know that Mahant ji was in that room and why did they show haste to break the doors and remove the dead body without informing the police?
