Hamirpur (HP) : Widespread snowfall in hills and rainfall in the lower hills (plain) area of Himachal Pradesh reported, due to which, the entire state is in grip of severe cold waves. The rainfall still continuing since Saturday evening as per the latest reports reaching here. Icy cool waves sweeping across the state, emitting from nearby hilly areas especially the ranges of the Himalayas are keeping the temperature down. People are forced to remain inside their homes to keep themselves warm and to save them from the wrath of the cold waves. Reports reaching here revealed that it had been raining intermittently in various parts of the lower hill areas of the state as a result the road traffic had come to a near standstill in the rural areas. Labor of the public works department was busy clearing the roads of the debris that had fallen on the roads. Water supply and power supply have also become erratic in the lower hill areas as the water distribution pipes have been washed away due to the heavy rains and the labor of the Jal Shakti department was busy restoring the water service. Meanwhile, the authorities of the districts of Hamirpur, Kangra, Kullu, and Mandi have told the people not to venture nearby the River Beas and tributaries as they were in spate due to the heavy rains in their catchments areas and it was not safe to visit those. On other hand, the farmers of the state who were happy with the earlier rains were now feeling upset as the continuous rain was harming the cause of their Rabi crops. They say that the rain at this juncture is not needed and there was a need for the bright sun shining for the growth of the crops.
